I started DC GlamourPlus with hopes of creating opportunities for aspiring plus size models, while encouraging women of size to love themselves in their own skin. Growing up I was always the "fat kid" and often felt different and left out. Being the only girl with 2 brothers didn't make it any easier, since I didn't have anyone who could relate to me. I often mingled with the "not-so-popular" crew in school and was never really big on fashion. In high school, I was active- I was in the marching band as a banner girl, I sang in the choir, was a member of the Environmental Justice group, Multi-cultral Club and Teen Lawyers group. Surprisingly enough, I didn't get into fashion until I decided I wanted to get into modeling. Why modeling? I guess I wanted to feel beautiful for a change. The models in the magazine look so pretty and I thought that if I got a makeover and did my homework, I could be a model too! Unfortunately, I couldn't find any opportunities for plus size models in my area (maybe I didn't search long enough)...so I formed my own group- DC GlamourPlus.
Deep inside, I have a passion for Creativity. I'm a self starter, I'm quite innovative and I love to direct. Since I've started DC GlamourPlus, I've gained a new level of self confidence and self steem. It's been a journey and everyday I learn something new... I hope my journey will inspire anyone to believe that they can do and be anything they want to...because if I can do it, then anyone can.
